This year we will commemorate the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 by a special screening of a dramatized documentary.
Film title: 217 – In memoriam Maria Wittner (with English subtitles)
Director: Gabor Koltay
Saturday, October 25, 5 PM
House of Hungary
The film, released in June 2025, portrays the life of Mária Wittner, who was sentenced to death at the age of 19 — and later to life imprisonment — for her involvement in the 1956 revolution. The film depicts the events unfolding around her on the streets, in the prison cell. Along with a series of recollections, it aims to build the arc of her spiritual and intellectual growth: the story of a young woman who became involved in the revolutionary events almost by chance, and who gradually transforms into a conscious revolutionary.
The film screening and discussion will be held in collaboration with Budapest Metropolitan University.
The program is free, refreshments will be served.
All are welcome. Please, RSVP at info@sdmagyar.org.
