Event: Commemoration of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956

  • Oct 24th

Victorious without Arms

A Hungarian-language musical, literary, and historical performance featuring actor János Perjés and guitarist Rezső Kutik. Printed English translations of the literary selections will be available at the event.

A Tribute to the Events of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight

History, personal stories, poetry, and songs intertwine throughout this evening, portraying the period leading up to November 1956. The performance evokes tragic human destinies and dreams lost to the past.

The closing thought of the program carries an important message:

“We are all capable of good and evil. We are not born bad. There is something good deep inside everyone. Some hide it, while others disregard and neglect it. But it is still there.”

This carefully curated program is a fitting tribute—dynamic, powerful, and deeply moving. The performance features selections from the works of Sándor Márai, Gyula Illyés, György Faludy, and Sándor Reményik, as well as excerpts from the diaries of university students in Budapest in 1956, and personal letters and recollections from the period following the suppression of the freedom fight.

Location: House of Hungary

The program is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided. We warmly welcome everyone interested in attending!
