Andy Grove (Gróf András) was born on 9/2/1936 in Budapest. The Jewish Grof family escaped the Nazi deportations, but Andras was later marked as a son of a capitalist. He immigrated to the US in 1956, when the Soviets entered Budapest.
He graduated from the City College of New York in 1960 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree and received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1963.
In July 1968, Dr. Grove participated in the founding of Intel Corporation. In 1979 he was named its President, and in 1987 he became Chief Executive Officer. Andy’s goal to get a computer in front of everyone skyrocketed. In May 1997 he was named Chairman and CEO.
He was chosen to Time’s Man of the Year for 1997. Died in 2016.
