Event: Volcan Mountain Hike-CANCELLED!!!

  • May 16th
The hike is CANCELLED because of inclement weather. Trail will be  closed.

Hi Everybody,

You are invited to join us to hike, one of San Diego’s gem, the scenic Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. It is ranking high in its beauty and place to visit and explore. I urge you to visit this place. Although the hike is a wonderful experience on its own, we could also visit Julian afterwards and sample some of the famous Julian apple pie and apple cider. You won’t be disappointed.

We have about 14-16 dedicated hikers ready to enjoy this hike. Won’t you join us too?
                                                ——————————————

Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve is only an hour and a half’s drive from San Diego, about 4 miles from Julian. The hike offers spectacular views from the coast to the desert. Every step of the 5 mile trail is well worth it. Some of the trail is partially shaded. It is a semi strenuous hike with an elevation change from about 4400 to 5300 feet. So tie your shoelaces, pack your backpack, bring plenty of water, sunscreen and shade and prepare for a fantastic day.  Emoji

Day and Date: Saturday, May 16, 2015.
Meeting Time: 11:00 a.m. Please allow yourself enough time and don’t be late. It is not fair to others to wait for late comers.
Hike starts: 11:30 a.m. Sharp!
Meeting Place GPS coordinates: 33.10505-116.602537
Meeting place directions: Please follow the instructions below, otherwise you may end up at the wrong location.
Via Ramona & Santa Ysabel (from all coastal and north inland communities)
From the intersection of Highways 78 &79 in Santa Ysabel, head east (SE) on Highway 78 approximately 3 miles to the junction with Wynola Road.  Turn left onto Wynola Road and continue another 3 miles just past Julian Orchards Drive to the ‘scissor-intersection’ of Wynola and Farmer Roads.  IMPORTANT:  This ‘scissor-intersection’ can be tricky if you’re not following the directions.  Do NOT turn right onto Farmer Road across from Julian Orchards Drive.  Just after you pass Julian Orchards Drive, turn left onto Farmer Road” Drive about 200 yards and on the right hand side you will notice a sign for Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve. Park your vehicle on Farmers Road and walk up to the trail head.

Type of Hike: “Backpackers hike” – meaning bring your snack and drink with you.
Lunch: We’ll have lunch at the summit.
Trail: Semi strenuous (I would say it is in between the difficulty level of Iron Mountain and Mount Woodson, which most of you know.)
Trail type: Loop
Pets: Allowed
Kids: Use your judgement.
